hatteras day three?

everyone has officially arrived. some of the boys came last night because they had a sailing rigotta they had to be at. but now everyone is here.
today is a bit less windy.
which is why people aren't already out at this hour... on a windy day they would be out around 6.
yesterday i went to work. which was alot of fun! and i learned how to make sandwiches and chocolate milkshakes and work the cash register. i got offered a job on hatteras island for the summer. its something to think about. living on an island for the summer would be cool. but i would have to rent an apartment, which means i wouldn't be making as much money, which is what my summers have to be about unfortunately. especially if i spend the first two weeks in england on a study tour.

then i went out sailing for about three and a half hours. sailing as in windsurfing.

WELL anyways.
last night we had a big spaghetti dinner. the boys made 7 pounds of spaghetti, and were thoughtful enough to have bought me rice noodles, which they cooked in a cute little pot. they also made me my own special sauce because i don't eat meat. then we all had salad. there was so many people, but they insisted we all sit down together at the tables, so they ended up hauling this huge piece of plywood up from a pulley system from the third story deck (so we didn't mess up the walls carrying it up). it took all 12 guys to pull it up. they were very happy with themselves. and then we all sat in deck chairs and prayed and ate dinner. (note: Dear God, may the grass grow and the breeze blow, thank you for bringing us all here, and we pray that the breeze is knarly and none of us are carnal, bless our grub, breeze on, amen)
after dinner the guys all turned on The windsurfing movie, and played gentleman's championship leisure. which is a pretty complicated drinking game apparently.

anyways right now a bunch of them, disappointed with the amount of wind, went out to the grocery store, and when they get back we are making pancakes. i am syked! (yes mom i remembered to bring my special pancake mix)

anyways.

over and out

hatteras day 2 or 3...no i'm pretty sure its 2...

everyone was up and had eaten breakfast by 7.
the wind was so strong it whistled against the sides of the house all night, and blew everything off the deck. there are whitecaps all over the sound.
it was too strong for me to feel up to going out, so i was handed all the 2000 dollar cameras they all own, put on my wetsuit, waded out to my chest, about 100 feet out in the sound, and shot probably around a thousand pictures. the boys all knew i was taking shots so they would jibe around me really close at around 20 mph, and do jumps and tricks so i could get good close ups. i haven't looked at all my shots, because i dont know how to look at them on such nice cameras... i was out there for an hour and a half. now i have work at kaia's kitchen, a local cafe where i was randomly offered a temporary job. the boys told me i can take the jeep. although there are now like 8 cars in the driveway. tons of people arrived last night. our trip near doubled in size. couple kids from maine are staying with us. talk about a long drive. theyr all still out on the water, and will be until the wind dies down. there are probably about 12 of them out. they are so far away you can only identify who is who by their sails and the tricks they know.
people here have their own vocabulary. everything is knarly and people are stoked and radical.

seven hour car rides

tomorrow i have a seven hour car ride with an ipod of craigs itunes...(featuring blink 182, afroman?!, pretty ricky, and other assorted bands you would associate with 10 year old boys)

we packed up nate's car today. he currently has a 20,000 dollar roof on his jeep cherokee (seven boards, eight masts, and assorted sails) not to mention all the gear IN his car. its absolutely ridiculous. i'm not sure how any of the people are going to fit. in fact we may have to just run next to the car. im kidding mom. we are taking two cars down tomorrow, and then there are like four or five people leaving to come down on saturday. it should be fun. we are getting there tomorrow around ten if all goes according to plan.

this is our exact house, if you would like to stalk us, or just happen to be in north carolina!!

room-mate UPDATE: megan is still broken. she recently went shopping with her mom for a backpack to carry around all her stuff with because she is on crutches.
megans mom: what about a Dora backpack meg?
megan: Dora is for BABIES mom! ... i want disney princesses.
megans mom: oh... my bad hun.
i have to go pack and study for a sociology midterm.

OH NO guess what i just realized... i dont have a suitcase. hmmm, alright. i'm in college, i'm smart, i can fix this. Problem solving skills. haha. i could always go hobo style.

"breeze on"
the surfer guys really sign all their emails like that. "breeze on"
GUESS WHAT ELSE THEY DO?! (see below conversation)

tom kean: dude what is this? *points to a surfing kayak strapped to the side of the car.. yes the SIDE of the car)
surfer guy: oh that? its a surf yak.
tom: but its so thin...
surfer guy: yeah dude its cause you stand on it to paddle, but you can sit on it too...
laura: wait its a kayak?
surfer guy: yeah, thats what i said. yak.
laura: SINCE WHEN do we abbreviate words of five letters. its like two syllables.
surfer guy: yeah... yak.

i was kind of like "eh..." about going at first. but now i'm getting excited. (surfer translation: stoked.)

i have to go pack.

ciao
