Saturday morning dawned misty and overcast, to the music of "the circle of life" from lion king, which one of the boys was playing rather loudly as a general wake up call. but outside in the streets the market was on full swing, and with our new plan of making all our own meals to save some bucks craig and i were out to cash some tickets and buy some fresh produce, cheese, bread, and meat (yes we got meat. not for me.). Then around one, we met up with friends from our group to hike to Barbaresco (a nearby hill town). As i said, it was overcast, but the hike was still refreshing, and the colors were even brighter in the muted lighting. I tried to keep my eyes out for signs of fall in the hillside vineyards and orchards. here is what i came up with... (okay i admit, alot of them are in B+W... but they look so much more epic that way, i couldn't resisit). Oh and you'll see what i mean here about the un-natural feel of the "forests" here in piedmont, all the same size/ type of tree= ridiculous!

hike to barbaresco
I had a lovely busy little weekend, which began friday night with a dress rehearsal for the reenactment parade we were to be in on Sunday. The parade is the beginning (or part of the beginning) of the infamous Truffle festival here in Alba. Anyways, the dress rehearsal did not go all that well because it was taking place in the same piazza as a semi-large pop concert (complete with lights, giant speakers, and a huge tent) and since the music was blasting everyones ears off it was hard to hear or understand what was really going on. To make matters worse, the italians were really disorganized and weren't really sure what exactly they wanted our little parade performance to be about or what exactly they wanted to happen. and to complicate everything, most of the americans were tipsy. this led to a lot of standing around in various places in the piazza until we were informed the rehearsal was over.
